ORLANDO, Fla. – The Trine University men's tennis team once again played a tough match against their opponents but came up short of Piedmont University by the score of 6-3. For the second day in a row multiple matches ended in super tiebreakers.
The Lions began the dual by taking two of the three doubles matches putting the Thunder down 2-1. Sophomore Cole Goodman and senior Drew Dixon teamed up in the No. 2 match to pick up the win for the team by the score of 8-4.
Trine went on to win two of singles matches with two more coming right down to the wire. Sophomore Caleb Morris picked up the quicker of the two wins in the No. 6 match with scores of 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Elijah Schilthuis needed two tiebreakers to get the second win for the team. He took the No. 3 match 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 10-4.
Freshman Andrew Spirrison dropped the opening set of the No. 1 match but came back to win the second and force a super tiebreaker before falling with scores of 5-7, 6-3, 7-10. Dixon had a similar experience in the No. 5 match with scores of 4-6, 6-1, 8-10.
The Thunder fall to 5-2 overall after the loss. They will finish off their time in Florida tomorrow, Thursday, March 8 at noon when they face off with Wheaton (Ill.) College.
