ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's basketball team, fresh off their NCAA Division III National Championship Semifinal appearance last season, are looking for success once again in the 2022-23 season. The Thunder, led by fifth-year head coach Andy Rang, have revealed their schedule for the upcoming season with 12 home games on the slate.
The regular season tips off on Thursday, November 8 when the men's and women's basketball teams host a doubleheader on opening night inside the MTI Center. The Thunder women will play Benedictine University beginning at 5:30 pm, followed by the men's team squaring off with Manchester University at 7:30 pm.
After a non-conference road game at Baldwin Wallace University on November 11, Trine will be the official home of the Cameron Hospital Classic on Friday, November 18 and Saturday, November 19. The Thunder face Edgewood University on Friday evening and play Otterbein University on Saturday afternoon. After finishing your Thanksgiving leftovers, you can come to the MTI Center to see the Trine women at home versus Ohio Northern University on Saturday, November 26 as well.
Conference play begins on Wednesday, November 30 with the Thunder heading to Adrian College to face the rival Bulldogs. From there, Trine hosts back-to-back Saturday Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contests against Calvin University (Dec. 3) and Olivet College (Dec. 10).
Saturday, December 17 marks the first of two regular season meetings with the defending NCAA DIII National Champions, the Hope College Flying Dutch. The Thunder will travel north to Holland for a 3 pm tip-off.
Trine uses their winter break to compete in two non-conference events, the Basketball Destinations Classic in St. Petersburg, Florida and the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament, hosted by DePauw University. The Thunder will play two games at each event, testing their ability to play championship caliber opponents in a tournament-like atmosphere.
The rest of the women's basketball schedule consists of MIAA opponents. They see Saint Mary's College (Jan. 7 at home), Alma College (Jan. 11), Kalamazoo College (Jan. 14) and Albion College (Jan. 18 at home) coming out of winter break to complete the first trip around the league.
On Wednesday, January 25, Hope makes the return trip to Angola for a rematch at the site of the 2021-22 MIAA Tournament Championship game. The two split their regular season meetings one year ago. The team will hit the road for their next two matchups, the first with Olivet on January 28 and the second at Albion on February 1.
Three of the final five regular season games are at home for Trine, starting with Alma on February 4 and Kalamazoo on February 8. After a brief road spell at Calvin on February 11 and Saint Mary's on February 15, the Thunder will celebrate their five seniors on Saturday, February 18 when the Thunder host Adrian. All Trine women's basketball home games can be seen on the Trine Broadcasting Network.
