ANGOLA, Ind. – Coming off of the holiday tournaments, the Trine University women's basketball team is 13th in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. The Thunder hold a record of 10-3 overall and went a combined 3-1 in the 2022 Basketball Destinations Classic and Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament.
A tough strength of schedule has kept Trine elevated in the national rankings, as a loss to #9 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire did not hurt the team much. All three of the team's losses have come to opponents currently ranked inside the top 25.
Key victories over North Park University (65-51), Wartburg College (60-56) and Marian University (73-38) on a neutral floor has helped to prepare the team for postseason play. Trine is atop the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings with a 4-0 conference record, including wins over #5 Hope College and previously-ranked Calvin University, with the final 12 games coming against MIAA foes.
Over the last four games, Makayla Ardis has shown presence near the rim with her rebounding, averaging 8.8 rebounds per game. Against Eau Claire, Ardis recorded her first-ever double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds, both career-highs. She would tack on 11 more boards the following day versus Marian.
The regular season continues for the Trine women's basketball team on Saturday, January 7 at 3 p.m. when the Saint Mary's College Belles enter the MTI Center for their first of two meetings in 2022-23.
