ANGOLA, Ind. – D3hoops.com has unveiled their All-Region selections for the 2022-23 women's basketball season. The Trine University women's basketball team had two All-Region selections in sophomore guard Sidney Wagner and senior guard Makayla Ardis. Wagner was chosen as a First Team All-Region 7 selection and Ardis received Third Team All-Region 7 honors. It is the first career All-Region award for both student-athletes.
Wagner and Ardis helped lead the charge for the Thunder to make a run to the Sectional Semifinal round of the NCAA DIII Women's Basketball Tournament. The team won back-to-back games against Washington University (WashU) and Loras College to advance to the second weekend of the event. At 15.7 points per game, Wagner led Trine in scoring in the team's three NCAA Tournament games and Ardis went for 18 points, nine rebounds and nine assists in the victory against WashU.
Wagner, a sophomore guard from Warsaw, Indiana, scored a team-high 14.9 points per game in 2022-23 and totaled 447 points. She was ranked third in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) in scoring as well. Wagner was tied for the conference lead in steals with 66 on the year and was tied for eighth in the region. In 30 games, she shot 49.4% from the field, grabbed 5.7 rebounds per game and dished out 2.7 assists per game.
Wagner set a new career-high with 29 points in a 76-64 victory at then-number one Hope College. In her first start of the season, the sophomore was 11-for-17 from the field and tied a season-high with six assists as well. She had two double-doubles this season, one coming at Saint Mary's College when she recorded a career-best 10 steals and the second coming at Loras in the NCAA Tournament Second Round game. Wagner went for 17 points and 12 rebounds while also icing the game at the free throw line in the closing seconds.
The senior guard from Lake City, Michigan, Ardis averaged 12.2 points per game on 47.2% from the field and 44.7% from deep and 80.0% at the free throw line. She was also a prolific rebounder at 5.0 boards per game and distributed 1.8 assists per game this season. Her three-point shooting percentage was second in the MIAA.
As the season went on, Ardis found herself in more of a scoring role and netted a career-high 29 points in the second matchup with Hope on the season. She had three games with 11 rebounds this season, including two double-doubles versus the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Adrian College. Her 175 career assists puts her ninth in Trine's NCAA DIII program history.
