FREELAND, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced the 2020-21 MIAA Academic Honor Roll and the 2020-21 MIAA Team GPA Award with Trine University coming in with a healthy representation on both lists.
The MIAA Team GPA Award is presented to conference athletic teams that achieve a 3.300 or better GPA for an academic year. Grade-point averages are calculated at the end of the academic year. Trine was one of seven MIAA members who had 50 percent or more of their MIAA-sponsored athletic teams receive recognition.
The Thunder also boasted the three highest team GPA's in the MIAA. Women's Tennis came in with the highest GPA in the association (3.91), Women's Soccer came in second (3.81) with Women's Cross Country in third (3.78).
All told 14 Thunder teams earned the honor, tied for third most from a single institution in the MIAA. In addition to the three top teams Women's Basketball, Women's Volleyball, Men's Tennis, Women's Lacrosse, Women's Golf, Men's Cross Country, Softball, Women's Track and Field - Indoor, Women's Track and Field - Outdoor, Men's Lacrosse and Men's Golf all received the honor.

Individually student-athletes were also recognized as part of the 2020-21 MIAA Academic Honor Roll. To be recognized, student-athletes must reach a 3.5 grade-point average for the academic year and earn a varsity letter in an MIAA-sponsored sport. Student-athletes who reached the academic standard but did not compete this year due to COVID-19 were still eligible for academic honors, along with fifth-year seniors.
