ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University softball team's offense led the way as the team picked up two more wins by sweeping visiting Alma College. The Thunder scored 22 runs in the doubleheader, the fifth time this season that the team has posted more than 20 in one day.
Despite Trine ultimately scoring nine runs and winning 9-3, the first game was a close one through the first four innings. Karley Trine opened the scoring quickly putting the ball over the left field fence in her first at bat.
The team added to their 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Emma Lee brought in a runner with a double through the left side before scampering home in the next at bat when Emma Beyer had a single through the right side.
The Scots responded in the top of the fourth with a homer of their own followed by an error that brought in a second run.
Scarlett Elliott made the score 4-2 in the bottom half of the inning with a homerun of her own. Alma then narrowed the lead once more in the fifth with an RBI single.
The Thunder pulled away in the fifth with Elliott and Trine each recording another RBI with Tyra Marcum coming up with the team's third homer of the game to bring in two more. After Beyer got one more RBI in the sixth the score was 9-3.
Alexis Michon finished off the game with her 12th win of the season. For the third time this season she recorded double-digit strikeouts this time fanning 12 while allowing just four hits, a walk and one earned run.
The second game was a showcase for sophomore Debbie Hill, who dominated both on offense and in the circle. On defense she would ultimately allow just one run on five hits while striking out five. In the batters' box she went three-for-four with a homerun and six RBIs.

Trine improves to 30-3 overall and 8-2 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play following the pair of wins. It is the 14th time that head coach Don Danklefsen has led the program to 30 or more wins in his 20 years at the helm.
The team will continue the season on Thursday, April 25 when they travel to The University of Olivet for another MIAA doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
