LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Trine University softball team held on to the fourth spot in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Coaches Poll along with the rest of the unchanged top-ten teams.
The Thunder won four games this past week all in convincing fashion to remain the fourth best team according to the poll. Salisbury University, Linfield University and East Texas Baptist University remain the top-three while Calvin University is the only other member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) to be ranked.
The team won their four MIAA games this week with a combined score of 45-4, three of them coming on via the run-rule. During the week they dispatched Saint Mary's College 8-0 and 15-0 with the highlight coming from Debbie Hill who homered twice in the same inning.
Trine finished off the week with a sweep of Alma College. The first game was close until the fifth inning when they Thunder pulled away for the final 9-3 score, three different batters had home runs in the game. The team pulled away in the second game for a 13-1 victory in five innings. Hill led the way with six RBIs and another homer.
Trine is currently 30-3 overall and 8-3 in MIAA play. They will take the field again on Thursday, April 25 when they travel to face The University of Olivet for another MIAA doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
