HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Lauren Clausen of the Trine University softball team has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Pitcher of the Week, the association announced Monday.
Along with Tyra Marcum the Thunder have their seventh and eighth MIAA athletes of the week this season. This is the first time in her career that Clausen has earned the award.
The senior from Elk Grove, Ill. pitched the pivotal second game of the MIAA Tournament this past weekend. In the battle between undefeated teams, she went five innings against Calvin University. The Thunder avenged the regular season sweep with a convincing 17-1 victory. Clausen finished the game allowing just the one run on two hits while striking out six Knights.
Trine went on to secure their third straight MIAA Tournament Title on Saturday with a second win against Calvin. They will now host a regional for the 2024 NCAA Division III Softball Championship. Their opening game is scheduled for noon on Thursday, May 16 against Westminster (Pa.) College.
