UW-Oshkosh was an at-large selection to the tournament after winning the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) regular season title and finishing second in the conference tournament.
The team won their own Oshkosh, Wisconsin Regional in a three-game sweep this past weekend. They picked up a 4-1 win over the College of Saint Benedict on the opening day and advanced to the championship game with a tight 1-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University on day two. Saint Benedict won their way back for a second meeting which the Titans took 8-3 for the regional championship. It is the fourth time the team has won a regional and the second in four years.
Trine currently boasts a 42-3 overall record and is ranked fourth in the country after sweeping their regional this last week. They opened the Angola, Indiana Regional with a 9-0 victory over Westminster (Pa.) College before advancing again with a 2-0 win over the University of Mount Union. They clinched the championship with a run-rule win over the Raiders in the rematch.
This marks the seventh overall and third straight trip to the super regional round for the Thunder. They currently hold a 10-2 record in super regional games, advancing past the round in five of their six attempts. It is just the second time that the Titans will compete in a super regional and it will come as a rematch against Trine. The last meeting came during the 2017 season with the Thunder winning a pair of high scoring games to eliminate UW-Oshkosh.
Last season Trine won their super regional against Concordia University Wisconsin in two games before ultimately winning their first NCAA Division III Softball Championship in Marshall, Texas.
