LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has announced the 2024 edition of their Division III All-Region team and six members of the Trine University softball team can count themselves among 376 honorees.
The Thunder led Region VII teams with five members earning first team honors and tied for the most honorees with six total.
Senior Alexis Michon returned to first team for the first time as a member of the Thunder, last season she was named to third team in her debut season with the team. The transfer has previously been a member of first team. Michon is one of the best pitchers in the country this season entering the postseason with the best WHIP (0.60) in the country and top ten in strikeout-to-walk ration (19.38), hits allowed per seven innings (3.63), walks allowed per seven innings (0.54) and strikeouts per seven innings (10.4).
Sophomore Macy Rocha was the first team's second basewoman. The transfer has made an immediate impact for the team both in the box and on the field. The Elkhorn, Wisconsin native entered the postseason nationally ranked in hits (48) and total bases (69). She is top-five on the team in all hitting categories including second in hits.
Sophomore Karley Trine makes here second appearance on an all-region team, this time reaching first team as an outfielder. The Kokomo, Indiana native entered the postseason nationally ranked in most hitting statistics, her bests coming in runs per game (3), slugging percentage (.697), RBIs (38) and RBIs per game (0.97). She currently leads the team with 54 hits and second with 13 doubles.
Sophomore Debbie Hill earned first team honors for the second year in a row, again as a utility/pitcher. Last year's NFCA Freshman of the Year continues to be one of the best in the country both as a pitcher and in the batters' box. In the circle she entered the postseason top-ten in WHIP (0.74) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (10.10) while also top-20 in the country in ERA (1.07), hits allowed per seven innings (4.36) and saves (4). Offensively, she was nationally ranked in most categories including seventh in home runs (13), 14th in slugging percentage (.872) and homeruns per game (.31).
The final first team honoree for the Thunder was freshman Tyra Marcum who earned a spot as a designated player or utility/non-pitcher. The Goshen, Indiana native has been a menace in the batters' box all season, ending the regular season nationally ranked in most offensive categories. Her best tallies came in RBIs (51) and RBIs per game (1.28).
Fifth-year senior Ellie Trine rounded out the delegation for the Thunder with her third appearance on an all-region team. For the second year in a row, she was named to third team as an outfielder. Fresh off of another year as a member of an All-MIAA team, she has battled through injury this season while still being a force at the top of the lineup. She is third amongst starters with a .505 on-base percentage and fifth with a .620 slugging percentage.
