RICHLAND, Mich. – Grace Dubec of the Trine University women's golf team put on a show over the two round Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championship rounds at Gull Lake View West. The junior had the lowest combined score by six strokes over second place at 152 (75-77) to get into position to be First Team All-MIAA for the first time in her career.
After a slow start, Dubec hit for par on four of the five holes from 3-7 and converted her only birdie on hole eight. She would go on to hit for par on the final seven holes she played after starting her round on the 16th hole. Dubec tied for fifth on the player leaderboard for the conference at 80.7 strokes on average to build upon her Second Team All-MIAA performance last season as a First Team All-MIAA honoree this year.
"I am beyond excited!" Dubec said after her round. "I beat my goal that I set for myself this year because of the championship rounds. Being able to win the overall in this final tournament and getting a personal record meant so much. I am so proud to be able to represent the Thunder! I love this team so much and I am so grateful to be a part of it."
As a team, the Thunder tied for fifth with Alma College and Albion College with a score of 701 (356-345). Trine had to put up better scores than both schools to draw even with them in the two-day event. In the MIAA standings, the Thunder were sixth with an average team score of 348.3.
Mae Norman tied for 28th in the two-day finale with a score of 177 (88-89). Grace Thiele tied for 35th at the end of the two championship rounds after she took 13 strokes off her day one score on Tuesday. The sophomore finished with a score of 183 (98-85) with a birdie on the par-3 hole 13.
