ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine women's golf team secured a victory in the season-opening Trine Women's Invite at the Thunder home course, Zollner Golf Club, on Friday afternoon.
Trine shot a team score of 340, topping runner-up Olivet College by nine strokes. Also present were Defiance College and Rochester University.
Trine junior Maire Sullivan [Plymouth, Mich. / Plymouth] took home the individual trophy with a score of 81. Sullivan was the talking point of the day not only because of the win – she also notched her first career hole-in-one on the par 3 sixth hole.
"I was coming off of a tough hole," Sullivan explained following her round. "When I hit it, it looked like it was heading for the hole. I thought, "oh, this is a good chance for a birdie!" and it one-hopped into the hole. I couldn't believe it! Everyone was telling me it went in as I walked up to the green, but I didn't believe it until I saw it in the cup."
