SAUGATUCK, Mich. – The Trine University women's golf team finished the first day of the Hope College Spring Invite with a team score of 351 strokes, good enough to sit in third. Hope College currently leads the event with a score of 344 and Calvin University is in second with 347 strokes.
Sophomore Grace Dubec led the team, with 85 strokes for the day, good enough to sit in fourth individually. She finished the round with nine pars out of the 18 holes. Freshman Calley Ruff finished just two strokes behind her teammate with an 87 for the day. She had the hole of the day for the team recording an eagle on the par four 13th hole.
Senior Máire Sullivan finished third on the team and in a tie for tenth individually with a round that included 88 strokes. She played a mostly stead round but struggled at the end of each nine posting high scores on hole nine, 16 and 18. She finished the day with six pars. Classmate Reagan Guthrie was the final counting score for the team finishing her round with 91 strokes. She had the distinction of recording the only birdie for the team with a two on the par three 17th hole.
Sophomore Bailey Bravata finished the day with 92 strokes competing as the final member of the Thunder's five. Classmate Caroline Boyd competed as an individual and finished with 93 strokes.
The team will continue the same event tomorrow, Saturday, April 8. They will begin play in a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
