ROYAL OAK, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Trine lefthander Phil Stakely its Pitcher of the Week for games played through March 30.
Stakely, a senior from Ostrander, Ohio (Buckeye Valley HS), became the first Trine pitcher to throw a no-hitter in an MIAA game as the Thunder shut out Albion, 10-0. Stakely faced only 22 batters, one above the minimum, striking out three and walking one in pitching the 27th MIAA no-hitter since 1958, and the first complete game no-no since 2009. Stakely also came on in relief in Trine’s 9-4 victory over Calvin, throwing two shutout innings while allowing just one hit. He is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
