ROYAL, OAK, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced that Trine University pitcher Phil Stakely (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) has been named to the All-MIAA First Team and outfielder Carter Stafford (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb) has been named to the All-MIAA Second Team.
Stakely, a senior, finished second in the conference with an earned run average of 1.82 over 39 2/3 innings pitched. The left-hander led the conference picking off five base runners and allowing just a .158 opponents’ batting average while being tied for second in the MIAA with five conference wins. Stakely pitched two complete games, including a no-hitter over Albion on March 30.
Stafford was one of just three freshmen selected as an All-MIAA honoree. Stafford finished the conference season second with three home runs. He was also third with 44 total bases, fourth in slugging percentage at .537, seventh with 22 runs, and 15th with a .341 batting average.
This is the fourth straight season the Thunder have had at least one player on both the All-MIAA First and Second teams. It is also the sixth straight season Trine has had multiple players named All-MIAA.
