ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's basketball program has hired Mike Cretens as an Assistant Coach.
"We are more than excited to announce the addition of Mike Cretens to our coaching staff," Head Men's Basketball Coach Brooks Miller stated. "Mike has worked with some of the best coaches and knows how to develop players both in the weight room and on the floor. He will be a tremendous asset and resource for all the young men in our program striving to reach their potential as student athletes!"
Cretens comes to Trine with a wide array of experiences that include stops at every level of collegiate men's basketball. Most recently, he spent time at his alma mater, Gladstone High School, as their varsity boys' basketball coach.
Prior to Gladstone, Cretens spent two seasons at William Woods University as graduate assistant men's basketball coach. He played an integral part in defensive game plans and player development that led to 12 All-Conference awards, including the two-time Defensive Player of Year.
Cretens also spent time at Tusculum University and Mississippi State University. As the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Tusculum, he was responsible for six NCAA DII athletic teams. At Mississippi State, he had the opportunity to work closely with the NCAA tournament team that produced six professional basketball players.
Cretens' basketball career started as a player at Gogebic Community College, and later continued at Finlandia University before making the transition into coaching. He completed his Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science at Northern Michigan University and earned his Master of Education degree at William Woods.
