HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Trine University men's golfer Mark Civanich has won his second consecutive Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week award after his performances at the Region V Preview and MIAA Jamboree #3 at Adrian College. It is also the third time this season that he was been honored as the conference's top men's golfer.
Civanich, a junior from Valparaiso, Indiana, was the individual medalist at both events he competed in for the week. He topped the field by two strokes against 14 other institutions in the Region V Preview and tied with Hope College's Will Robson for the third straight MIAA Jamboree event last Saturday.
Playing at the very tough The Virtues Golf Club early in the week, Civanich scored rounds of 75 and 76 on his way to a 36-hole total score of 151. The Thunder scored a third-place team finish in the Region V Preview, going up against top contenders to qualify for the NCAA DIII National Championship event this spring.
At MIAA Jamboree #3, Civanich fired an even-par 72 at Tecumseh Golf Club with three birdies. He and Robson tied for the top spot as individuals, and the team finished second-place to the Flying Dutch by two strokes. The duo has identical scorecards through the first three conference rounds and are tied for the league lead.
MIAA Jamboree #4 takes place on Monday, October 10 at Kalamazoo Country Club and the MIAA Fall Championships will emanate from Kaufman Golf Course in Wyoming, Michigan on Friday, October 14 and Saturday, October 15 to round out the fall season.
