NORMAL, Ill. – Mark Civanich earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, leading the way as the Trine University men's golf team finished in a tie for tenth at the 2024 Illinois Wesleyan Invitational.
The Thunder finished the day with 303 strokes for a two-day total of 605 to finish in a tie with Millikin University for tenth. The hosts ran away with the event finishing with 568 strokes, 24 better than Bethel (Minn.) University who finished in second.
Civanich finished the day with a 74 for a tournament total of 146. The total put him in a six-way tie for tenth place, which was broken by a scorecard playoff. Civanich was the only of the six players to birdie hole number six today, the hardest hole of the course, giving him the spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Carter Schnipke turned in the low score of the day for the team, with 73 strokes, on the back of two birdies on the front nine and just four bogeys for the day. Asher Caldwell finished with the second best two-day total on the team, one stroke ahead of Schnipke, after finishing today with 78 strokes. It was an up and down round for the sophomore, with a team-high four birdies and a team-high nine over par holes.
Charlie Eriksen was the final counting score in the lineup for the second round, finishing the day with 78 strokes. Wade Shafer finished the day with 79 strokes as the fifth member of the lineup. Kyler Rod led the Thunder individuals with 74 strokes on the day, Colin Crumrine scored 80 for the day.
Trine is next scheduled to compete when they head to the Cascades Golf Course in Jackson, Mich. for the 2024 Brit-Thunder Cup. The head-to-head contest against Albion College is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 8.
