ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's volleyball team is about to take first serve on the 2023 season. There are nine opportunities to see the Thunder compete at home and challenges on the road that includes teams from coast to coast.
The season and home opener for the men's volleyball team is set for Friday, January 20 when Marian University out of Wisconsin enters the confines of Hershey Hall. 2023 kicks off at 5 p.m. on that date.
From there, Trine goes on a stretch of 11 consecutive matches on a neutral floor or on the road. Some of these events include a tri-match at Benedictine University, the Concordia University-Wisconsin Invite, the Raptor Classic event in upstate New York and a tri-match at Olivet College. Notable opponents include the University of California Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, the St. John Fisher University Cardinals and the St. Norbert College Green Knights.
Four matches in four days awaits the Thunder in late February when the team goes on the road to North Central College on February 22, then home the next day versus Lawrence Tech University and a home tri-match on February 25 against Maranatha Baptist University and Illinois Tech. The next week, Trine also hosts Indiana Tech on February 28 and Bethel University on March 1.
A tri-match at North Park University on March 4 is the last of the non-conference slate before the Thunder compete in Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) play. Trine will be comfortable at home for four straight matches to start conference action from March 15-25. The Thunder will go head-to-head with Adrian College (March 15), Olivet College (March 20), Wabash College (March 24) and Fontbonne University (March 25) to begin their MCVL ledger.
The final four MCVL matches will require travel for Trine. They will visit Wittenberg University on March 31 and turnaround to play Mount St. Joseph University for a back-to-back on April 1. The regular season concludes on the weekend of April 6-7 when the team faces Baldwin Wallace University and the defending MCVL Tournament champions, the University of Mount Union.
