CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – For the third time this season, Hunter Haas of the Trine men's volleyball team was named Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Defensive Player of the Week. It is also the fourth time that a Trine men's volleyball student-athlete has won the award after Sam Bhandal received the honor last month.
The junior libero from Cincinnati, Ohio had a stellar weekend that included breaking his own school record for most digs in a match. Haas tallied 25 digs in a four-set loss to Wittenberg University, which broke the program record in digs in a match and was well above the previous mark for most digs in a four-set match. He added 12 more digs in a win at Mount St. Joseph University, 3-0.
In total, Haas had 37 digs in two matches, good for an average of 5.27 digs per set. He was also perfect on his 43 receptions on opposing serves, 25 of which came versus the Tigers of Wittenberg. Haas chipped in on the team's assist total with six across the two matches played.
Individually, Haas is the conference leader in total digs (250) and digs per set (3.47). He has not had a receiving error in his last six matches.
The team looks to solidify their conference tournament seeding with matches at Baldwin Wallace University on Thursday, April 6 and at the University of Mount Union on Friday, April 7. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
