CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – For the second time on the 2023 season, Hunter Haas of the Trine men's volleyball team was named Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Defensive Player of the Week.
The 2021 and 2022 MCVL Defensive Player of the Year from Cincinnati, Ohio was a key contributor in the team's efforts in Rochester, New York last weekend. The junior was named to the All-Tournament team after facing a pair of American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) ranked teams in #5 St. John Fisher University and #9 Nazareth College, as well as State University of New York (SUNY) Cortland.
Haas totaled 48 digs in three matches (4.0 digs per set) and reached 500 career digs against Nazareth College on Saturday. In the five-set match, the men's volleyball team was credited with 83 total digs, a new program record. He also had zero errors on 66 receptions from opposing serves and distributed five assists. Haas leads the MCVL in digs per set through nine matches in 2023 by averaging 3.38 digs per set.
On Saturday, February 18, the Thunder compete in a tri-match at Olivet College. Trine will face St. Norbert College in a neutral site contest beginning at 3 p.m. and squares off with the host Comets at 5 p.m.
