LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has named senior Mercede Daugherty (Watervliet, Mich. / Watervliet) to the All-Region second team for the central region the association announced today.
This is the second time in her career that Daugherty has been awarded all-region honors, but the first appearance she has made on the second team. Her first appearance came in the 2019 iteration of the award as an at-large selection to the third team.
Daugherty has been a menace in the batter's box this season. She came in second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association in all three offensive percentage categories finishing with a .439 batting average, a .481 on-base percentage and a .704 slugging percentage. She also finished in a tie atop the MIAA with 14 doubles.
Daugherty led the Thunder in doubles, batting average and slugging percentage while finishing in second in on-base percentage and in hits.
Trine finished the regular season as co-champions of the MIAA. They currently await the NCAA Division III Softball Championship selection show where they have high hopes of an at-large bid to the tournament. The show is scheduled to air at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 17.
