ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University women's basketball team is ranked sixth in the latest D3hoops.com poll that was released yesterday.
The Thunder are coming off of a week that saw Trine finish 1-1 with the only blemish being a 61-52 loss to top-ranked Hope (Mich.) College on Wednesday (Feb. 3). Trine then rebounded with a 92-55 win against Albion (Mich.) College on Saturday (Feb. 6) in which the Thunder outscored the Britons, 56-27, in the second half.
For the week, four players averaged in double figures in scoring led by junior Kayla Wildman (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) with 13.0 points per game on 47.4 percent shooting (9-of-19), including 45.5 percent (five-of-11) from three-point range. The trio of Kelsy Taylor (Louisville, Ky./New Albany), Kaylee Argyle (Freeland, Mich./Freeland) and Tara Bieniewicz (Chesterfield, Mich./Dakota) were all tied for second in scoring with an even 10.0 ppg. average each. Taylor and Argyle also both averaged 3.5 rebounds per game and Bieniewicz grabbed 3.0 boards per game.
Additionally, senior Shay Herbert (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney) led the team last week in rebounding with 7.5 rpg. in addition to scoring 6.5 ppg. Kaylee Argyle tallied a team-best six assists and three steals defensively.
Trine is scheduled to host Kalamazoo (Mich.) College tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 9) at the MTI Center in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
