ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University women's basketball team was ranked third in the latest D3hoops.com poll.
The Thunder finished 2-0 last week with wins against Calvin (Mich.) University and Adrian (Mich.) College.
For the week, sophomore Sam Underhill (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) led the team in scoring at 17.0 points per game which included a career-high 19 points in the win against Calvin. Underhill also led the team in rebounding for the week at 8.5 boards per game, had two blocked shots and was tied for the team-lead in steals with four. Additionally, Underhill finished among the team leaders in assists with four.
Three other players averaged 10 or more points last week in juniors Kayla Wildman (Rockford, Mich./Rockford), Tara Bieniewicz (Chesterfield, Mich./Dakota) and Kelsy Taylor (Louisville, Ky./New Albany). Wildman averaged 12.0 ppg., Bieniewicz scored 11 ppg. and Taylor added 10.0 ppg. Taylor was second in rebounding with 6.0 rpg. The majority of Wildman's and Bieniewicz's points came from behind the three-point line as Wildman connected on five triples and Bieniewicz had six successful three-point attempts. Bieniewicz also tied for the team-lead in assists with teammate Alyssa Argyle (Freeland, Mich./Freeland) with five helpers each.
Trine is scheduled to host Hope (Mich.) College on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at the MTI Center. The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
