ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Trine University women's tennis team picked up their first win of the spring break portion of their 2022 season by defeating University of Northwestern (Minn.) by the score of 5-4.
The Thunder fell behind to start the match dropping two of three doubles matches. The lone win came for seniors Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) by the score of 8-4.
Spirrison and Cole would then go undefeated on the day both winning their singles matches. Spirrison in the No. 1 with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and Cole in the No. 4 with scores of 6-0, 6-0. A third win came from sophomore Eva Morales (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart) who won 6-2, 6-4.
Following a pair of losses in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches the dual was tied at four with just No. 2 singles remaining. In that match sophomore Jadyn Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) gave the Thunder the win with a super tiebreaker victory with scores of 6-4, 2-6, 10-6.
The team improves to 5-2 following the win. They will continue their season when they take on King's (Pa.) College tomorrow, Tuesday, March 7.
