DECATUR, Ill. – The Trine University women's triathlon team finished third at today's Millikin University College Cup.
The Thunder tallied 154 team points to secure the team placement. Winning the day was North Central College with 215 points with Calvin University coming in second with 158.
Sophomore Grace Huisman led the way for the team finishing fourth individually with a time of 1:10:03. She turned in top-ten performances in each of the three legs to earn the overall spot. Her best time came in the bike where she finished fourth.
Coming in five minutes later for a ninth-place finish was junior Kathryn Berlew with a time of 1:15:13. She also made her move during the bike leg of the race posting the sixth best time during the leg.
Finishing 15th overall was sophomore Summer South with a time of 1:16:40. The strength of her day was in the running leg where she had the eighth fastest time.
Sophomore Maria Hurst was the fourth to finish for Trine with a 1:22:27 for 29th overall. Classmate Paige Aselage went for 33rd with a time of 1:24:54 and freshman Alyssa Seiter rounded out the delegation with a time of 1:26:08 for 36th.
Yesterday the Thunder competed in the Millikin Splash & Dash as a warmup for today's event. Three members of the team finished in the top-ten with Huisman leading the way in second, Berlew coming in ninth and Hurst in tenth. Senior Becca Schaffner and South both just missed out on the top-ten finishing 11th and 12th respectively. Aselage finished 15th and Seiter came in 19th.
The team will continue their season when they travel to the East Regional National Qualifier on Saturday, October 14. That event will take place in Smith Mountain Lake, Va.
