DULUTH, Minn. -- Freshman Kyle Kozma has been named this week's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring the defense in the team's crucial sweep of Lake Forest College.
This is the sixth time that a Trine University men's hockey player has earned the award and the first time in Kozma's young career.
The goalie played both games in net for the Thunder over the weekend. On Friday, he posted a 22 save performance, allowing just one goal as the team picked up a tight 2-1 victory. Then on Saturday, he recorded 33 saves and secured the second shutout of his career as the team finished the weekend with a 7-0 victory.
The Thunder currently sit in fourth in the NCHA standings and have a chance this weekend to improve to as high as second with a pair of wins. They open the weekend home series against Lawrence University on Friday, February 10 at 7 p.m.
