DULUTH, Minn. – For the second week in a row, freshman Kyle Kozma has been named this week's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Defensive Player of the Week, after securing another sweep in the final weekend of regular season play.
This is the seventh time that a Trine University men's hockey player has earned the award and the second time in Kozma's young career.
Kozma played both games in net for the team on the weekend, picking up a pair of wins. On Friday he secured the third shutout of his time at Trine, recording 22 saves in a 3-0 victory over Lawrence University. Then on Saturday he followed up with 20 mores saves in a 3-1 win.
The sweep secured the Thunder the four-seed and the accompanying home ice for the opening round of the upcoming NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs. They will host the Milwaukee School of Engineering for a pair of opening round games this Friday and Saturday. The first game is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday in the Thunder Ice Arena.
