ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's tennis team hosted Albion College for a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest and emerged with the unblemished win taking all nine matches.
Freshmen Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Tatum Matthews (Midland, Mich. / Herbert Henry Dow) set the tone for the afternoon taking the No. 1 doubles match, 8-0. Sophomore Andrea Jordan (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) and freshman Camille Lozier (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) came in just behind their teammates with an 8-1 win in the No. 2 match.
In the closest match of the night junior Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) and sophomore Katie Simon (Paw Paw, Mich. / Paw Paw) still came away with the victory by the score of 8-6.
The Thunder's top three continued their dominance into the singles portion of the dual with each Spirrison, Matthews and Braun winning their matches 6-0, 6-0. Lozier joined her counterparts going undefeated in her two matches of the day with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 5 match.
In the No. 4 match, sophomore Delaney Keirn (Claypool, Ind. / Whitko) came away with the victory 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) rounded out the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 6 match.
The Thunder improve to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in MIAA play following the victory. They are scheduled to host Hope College on Saturday, April 13 for their next dual of the season. The match is set to start at 2 p.m.
