ALMA, Mich. – The Trine University women's tennis team came up with the 8-1 victory over host Alma College in their sixth Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) competition of the year.
The Thunder started the match strong with two points in the doubles portion of the day. In the No. 1 singles match freshmen Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Tatum Matthews (Midland, Mich. / Herbert Henry Dow) came away with an 8-3 win. Then in the No. 3 match junior Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) and freshman Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) picked up the other victory with a score of 8-1.
Trine finished off the win with six victories in the singles portion of the competition. Spirrison, Matthews, Braun and Cole all finished of the contest undefeated picking up wins. Sophomore Delaney Keirn (Claypool, Ind. / Whitko) came away with a No. 4 win in her lone match of the day with scores of 7-5, 7-6(7-5). The final win for the Thunder came in the No. 5 match where Camille Lozier (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) emerged victorious with scores of 6-3, 6-0.
The Thunder improve to 10-7 overall and 4-2 in the MIAA following the victory. They will continue their season by traveling to face Kalamazoo College on Monday, April 22 at 4 p.m.
