FREELAND, Mich. -- For the second consecutive week, Trine's Kara Eck has been named the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced today.
Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) set a school record in the weight throw Saturday with a toss of 17.58 meters (57 feet, 8.25 inches) to take first in the Findlay Classic and Elite Throws Competition. The junior topped a field that included NCAA Division I and II performers. Eck also took first in the weight throw and second in the shot put in Friday's Don and Riley Zimmer Indoor Classic.
Saturday's weight throw performance is ranked No. 6 in the nation, putting Eck on track for a return to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Naperville, Ill. Eck last earned All-America honors in the weight throw as a freshman, and earned All-America honors in the shot put as a sophomore. The national meet is scheduled for Mar. 10-11.
The Trine women's track and field team returns to action Saturday, Feb. 4 at the IWU Midwest Classic. Events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
