HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has unveiled the All-MIAA recipients for the 2023 baseball season. The Trine University baseball team was represented by senior outfielder Robert Kortas on the Second Team All-MIAA.
The New Baltimore, Michigan native earns All-MIAA accolades for the first time in his career after a breakout season at the dish for the Thunder. He led the team with a .361 batting average (39-for-108) and .509 slugging percentage and was tenth in the conference in batting average among qualifying players. Kortas accumulated a team-high 11 doubles, one triple and one homerun in 2023, came around to score 19 times and drove in 21 runs. He tallied 55 total bases to tie for the team lead.
Kortas was able to draw four walks, and was 8-for-8 on steal attempts. Defensively, he made 29 putouts and was credited with five assists in 36 total chances for a .944 fielding percentage. He was able to play the corner outfield spots, third base and also came in to pitch six times. Kortas held a 1-0 record on the bump with one save. He was able to strike out three batters in 6.2 innings of work.
Eleven times this season Kortas had multiple hits in a game. In the series against Calvin University, he went 10-for-14 at the dish with three walks, one double, two runs scored and five RBIs. He was 4-for-4 in the series opener against the Knights on April 21. During the team's spring break trip, Kortas drove in a career-high five runs thanks to a 3-for-6 effort with an RBI single, RBI double, RBI groundout and a two-run homerun against Dominican University on March 8.
