NEW YORK, N.Y.-- The Trine men's soccer team battled New Jersity City to a scoreless draw in the season-opener for the Thunder Saturday morning at the CSI Soccer Complex.
Chris Stewart (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) came up big in net for Trine with 10 saves to keep NJCU off the board. The shutout was the 11th of Stewart's career, which is second among all Trine goalkeepers in the Division III era. The Knights outshot the Thunder by an 18-9 margin, including 5-1 in the two overtime periods. Stewart made four saves in the extra stanzas, two in each OT period. Trine opens the season 0-0-1.
Each team had seven corner kick opportunities in the match. NJCU was whistled for 17 fouls to Trine's 9.
The Thunder return to action at the College of Staten Island Monday, Sep. 1 at 10:00 a.m.
