FRANKLIN, IND.-- Two freshman scored their first-career goals, and Chris Stewart was solid in net again as Trine defeated Franklin 2-0 Sunday afternoon in the Daniel Schuetz Community Classic.
Christhian De La Paz (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) and Juan Monjaraz (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) each scored their first-career tallies to provide the offense in the Thunder victory. Each of Trine's seven goals this season have been scored by a different player. Stewart (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) made five saves to earn his second shutout of the season and 12th of his career. The Thunder improve to 2-1-1 on the season. The Grizzlies fall to 1-3.
De La Paz got Trine on the board just 7:22 into the contest off a pass from Nick Lang (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral). The goal proved to be the game-winner, the first of De La Paz's Trine career. The Thunder took that 1-0 lead into the half.
Monjaraz gave Trine an insurance tally at the 66:58 mark of the contest. Fellow freshman Dalton Mullennix (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport) picked up the assist. Mullennix has picked a point in each of the last two matches.
Franklin outshot the Thunder by a 14-11 margin, and produced five corner kick opportunities to Trine's one. Cody Chapman made two saves for the Grizzlies.
Trine returns to action Friday, Sep. 12 when they host Defiance as part of the Ketner Classic. Adrian and Manchester will also participate in the Classic, which will continue Saturday at Weaver Field.
