HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Junior guard Sidney Wagner was chosen as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week after leading the Trine University women's basketball team to a 2-1 start to the season, highlighted by a victory against Baldwin Wallace University, who are receiving votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll.
Over three games last week, Wagner averaged 17.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game on 39.1% shooting. Trine defeated the Yellow Jackets of Baldwin Wallace in their season opener by a score of 62-60, then hosted the Cameron Hospital Classic for the final two games of the weekend. The Thunder topped Muskingum University 78-47 then lost to Wittenberg University in the finale, 65-59.
Wagner led or tied for the team lead in scoring in all three contests, including a season-high 18-point performance against the Muskies. She was 6-of-11 from the field in that game and brought down eight rebounds in 25 minutes played.
This is Wagner's second career Athlete of the Week award after earning honors from the conference and the national level in week six of the 2022-23 season. Up next on the schedule for the 17th-ranked women's basketball team takes on #10 Ohio Northern University for their first road test of the year. Tip-off on Saturday, November 25 is scheduled for 2 p.m.
