HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – For the second time in the 2023-24 season, junior guard Sidney Wagner of the Trine University women's basketball team has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week.
Wagner guided the Thunder to an 88-54 win over Saint Mary's College to move to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in league play. Trine outscored the Belles 51-25 in the second half alone, with 14 of those points coming from Wagner.
In total, she scored 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting with eight rebounds, nine assists and four steals. It is the second consecutive contest where Wagner has come close to a triple-double after going for 16-9-7 in their last game against Albion College. She had only one turnover as well as tying her season-high with three makes from beyond the arc.
Overall this season, Wagner leads the conference with 18.1 points and 4.4 assists per game. She is also tied for third in steals with 1.7 per game and fifth in the MIAA in rebounding at 7.1 per game. As the team's starting point guard, Wagner paces an offense ranked fourth in all of NCAA DIII in turnovers per game with only 11.6 per game.
Trine women's basketball takes the floor again on Saturday, December 16 versus the University of Wisconsin-Stout beginning at 1 p.m. inside the MTI Center.
