EXCELSIOR, Minn. – For the third consecutive week, the Trine University men's hockey team is one of the 15 best teams in the country according to the USCHO.com NCAA Division III coaches poll, coming in a tie for 14th.
The Thunder share the last spot in the poll with Trinity College, both receiving 35 points this week. Adrian College remains the only other member of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) to be ranked, remaining in third. St. Nobert continues to receive votes.
Trine swept Marian University in a pair of NCHA contests this past weekend. On Friday, they led from start to finish, scoring a goal in the first and then two more in the second before ending the day with a 4-1 victory. Josh Wright and Sam Antenucci both recorded two points in the win, with Wright scoring the game winner.
On Saturday, the team needed a mild comeback to get their win. They trailed after one period, but three goals in the final ten minutes of the second gave them a commanding 4-2 lead. They added two more in the third to finish the day with the 5-3 victory. Sean Henry led the way for the team finishing with three points. He tallied two assists in the second, one on the eventual game winner, and a goal in the third.
The 10-2-0 Thunder will enjoy a healthy break before their next games. They are set to travel to face Hamilton College for a pair at the end of December. The first of those games is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, December 29.
