ADRIAN, Mich. – The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) has announced their "Three Stars of the Week" with junior Tyler Blanchard taking home the award after leading the team to an upset victory.
It is the sixth time a member of the Trine University men's hockey team has been named a star of the week. This is the first time that Blanchard has been recognized.
The forward scored a pair of goals in last week's matchup between nationally ranked teams. The Thunder entered the contest 14th in the nation while Adrian college was set at fourth, but the home team came up with a 5-4 victory over the visiting Bulldogs. It is the first time in program history that Trine has defeated Adrian on home ice.
Blanchard led the team with a pair of goals in the contest, including the decisive overtime goal coming 2:59 into the extra period.
His first tally of the contest came midway through the first period and gave the team an early 2-0 lead. Adrian scored the second two goals of the contest and then the teams did it all again during the second period. A scoreless third sent the game to overtime with a 4-4 score, before Blanchard turned in his heroics.
