BRISTOL, Wisc.—The Trine women's golf team opened the Carthage "Shootout at the Border" in fifth place after day one on Friday.
The Thunder is 55 over par-343 at the Bristol Oaks Golf Club. University of Wisconsin-Whitewater leads the pack at 28 over par, while hosts Carthage is 34 over. Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Hope is also tied for second place at 34 over.
Seniors Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview) and Jaime Frost (St. John, Ind./Hanover Central) are tied for 13th in the individual standings at 10 over. Kaitlin Bowe of UW-Whitewater and Britni Gielow of Hope sit on top of the leader board at five over.
Ryleigh Gordon (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) shot 15 over-87 and is in 25th place. Also golfing for Trine is Claire Barnett (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) at 20 over-92 and Brooke Johnston (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) at 26 over-98.
Round two of the Carthage "Shootout at the Border" concludes tomorrow.
