ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team dropped a tight match to visiting Manchester University. The Thunder put a different lineup on the courts and fell 5-4 to the Spartans.
Trine started strong in the contest taking two points from the doubles portion of the contest. Junior Adam Dills (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) and sophomore Mitch Rose (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth) competed in the No. 2 match and came away with an 8-5 victory. In the No. 3 match, sophomore Ben Toole (Goshen, Ind. / Fairfield) and freshman Ethan Wallace (Hope, Ind. / Hauser) took away an 8-4 win.
The two teams split the first two matches of the singles portion of the contest to push the score to 4-3. Hancock needed a super tiebreaker but came up with the win at No. 2 with scores of 3-6, 6-1, 10-1. Dills added the team's other point in the No. 3 singles match with scores of 6-4, 6-2.
The Spartans then took the No. 5 match to tie the match at 4-4 heading into the final match. Trine freshman Grant Houin (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth) took the opening set 6-4 but dropped the second 6-1, and the match headed to a super tiebreaker. There Manchester came up with the victory for the match, 10-8.
The Thunder fall to 2-3 following the loss. They face a quick turnaround hosting Adrian College tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 27 for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
