ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team swept visiting Manchester University, finishing the day with a 9-0 victory.
In the closest match of the night, freshman Andrew Spirrison and sophomore Caleb Morris took the No. 2 doubles match 8-4. The No. 1 match went in favor of sophomore Cole Goodman and senior Drew Dixon finished with an 8-2 victory. Freshmen Elijah Schilthuis and Nicholas Jen finished off the doubles portion with a convincing 8-0 victory in the No. 3 match.
The Thunder continued their dominance in the singles portion of the match. Three members of the team posted 6-0, 6-0 victories, including Schilthuis in the No. 3 match, Morris in the No. 5 match and Jen in the No. 6 match.
In the No. 1 match, Spirrison won 6-2, 6-2 in the closest of the singles matches. Goodman was a bit more convincing in the No. 2 match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory before Dixon finished off the day with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 4 match.
Trine improves to 6-3 overall following the victory. They will continue their season when they travel to face the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Sunday, March 19. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
