CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team needed every match but came up with the win over Wabash College, 5-4.
The Thunder started the contest strong coming away with two wins in the doubles portion of the match. The No. 1 team of sophomore Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) and freshman Ryan Smith (Peru, Ind. / Peru) came up with an 8-4 win in their match and the No. 3 team of senior Isaac Everitt (Scottsburg, Ind. / Scottsburg) and sophomore Alex Mullet (Westfield, Ind. / Westfield) came up with their win 8-2.
Smith went on to get a second win in the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 4 singles match. Junior Jaxon Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) picked up another win for the team in the No. 3 singles match with scores of 6-4, 6-2.
Tied 4-4 the match came down to the No. 1 singles match. Everitt dropped the first set 6-2 before rallying back in the second to force a super tiebreaker with a 6-2 win of his own. He then came away with the tiebreaker 10-4 to win both the match and the dual for the Thunder.
The team improves to 5-3 following the win. They will next take the courts when they travel to face Albion College on Sunday, March 21. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
