ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's lacrosse team had their home opener ruined by visiting Albion College losing the contest 20-10.
The Britons started the scoring in the contest quickly going up 1-0 on the Thunder just 45 seconds into the contest. They would build a 5-0 lead over the first 14 minutes of play.
Trine came up with their first goal of the game with 15:45 left in the first half. Junior Liv Ghent (Byron Center, Mich. / Caledonia) came up with the goal on a free position attempt. The Thunder would come up with another goal to cut the deficit to three under a minute later.
For the next seven minutes of the half, the two teams would trade goals holding at the three-goal deficit. Albion broke the stalemate with two goals in a row to end the half with a 9-4 lead.
The Britons would then pull away in the second half, despite the best efforts of Trine's offense, building a ten-goal lead twice and ending the game with the 20-10 victory.
Senior Kristin John (South Bend, Ind. / St. Joe's) led the way for the Thunder offensively finishing the contest with three goals and an assist. Ghent came in right behind her with two goals and an assist. Senior Kristen Nguyen (Locust Grove, Ga. / Luella) and sophomore Ella Dougherty (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) each finished with two goals and freshman Danielle Gargiulo (Downers Grove, Ill. / Downer's Grove) rounded out the scoring with a goal and an assist.
Trine will face off with Adrian College in their next scheduled contest. The game is a home affair and is set to begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27.
