LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Calista Richmond and Courtney Rhodes each recorded six points as the Trine University women's lacrosse team picked up their fourth win of the season, defeating Spalding University by the score of 19-7.
The Thunder started the game blazing hot, scoring ten goals in the opening period and building a six-point lead for the first break. Danielle Gargiulo scored the first goal of the game with Richmond and Rhodes adding the second and third.
All told, six members of the team scored in the period. Richmond posted all six of her points in the quarter including three goals and three assists. Rhodes ended the period with five points including two goals and three assists. Gargiulo had two goals with Alyssa Lahutsky, Nikki Hibler and Alyssa Keptner scoring one.
Trine added to their lead in the second outscoring the opposition 4-1, making the score 14-5 at halftime. Three different Thunder started the period with goals including Brooke Hoag, Elizabeth Larson and Lillian O'Neal. Gargiulo added the fourth to finish the game with three.
Out of the intermission Rhodes scored her final goal of the day to reach the six-point mark. O'Neal scored a second and Avelyn McCall got on the scoresheet for the first time. After the third period Trine held a 17-6 lead.
They outscored the Golden Eagles again in the final quarter, but only 2-1, making the final 19-7. O'Neal added her third goal of the day with Larson adding her second.
In goal Maddy Kasten faced limited pressure on her way to her third of the season. She made two saves while allowing the seven goals.
The Thunder improve to 4-1 overall following the victory. They will make a quick turnaround remaining on the road to face Hanover College tomorrow, Saturday, March 9. That game is set to start at 1 p.m.
