ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's lacrosse team tied the game in the final minutes but gave up two late goals to the visitors from Taylor University by the score of 14-12.
The Thunder fell behind early as the Trojans took the first three goals of the contest. The team responded with a 6-1 run to take a lead of their own at 6-4. The last four goals of the period would go to the visitors and Taylor took an 8-6 lead into the intermission.
The two teams traded goals to start the second half until the Thunder found a way to double up the opponent over a 10-minute span to tie the game at 12 with just over four minutes remaining in regulation. The Trojans would score the last two goals of the game however to leave with a 14-12 win.
Junior Kristin John (South Bend, Ind. / St. Joe's) led the way for Trine in the contest finishing the game with five goals. Three members of the team finished with two goals including sophomore Mia Schlueter (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carrol) and freshmen Valecia Palermo (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Bishop Dwenger) and Ella Dougherty (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell).
Senior Lilly Dusek (Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville) led the team with three assists in the contest. In net junior Emily Morthorst (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) finished the game with 14 saves.
The Thunder fall to 0-6 following the loss. They will travel to face the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse on Friday, March 13. The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. EDT.
