OLIVET, Mich. - The Trine University Lady Thunder tennis team got their first conference win of the season as they defeated Olivet College 6-3. Trine moves their overall record to 5-10 and improves to 1-6 in the MIAA.
The Thunder started the match with three very close doubles matches. It was the third doubles team of freshman Erin Kwaske (Jackson, Mich./Western) and junior Kaylynne Goeglein (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) that recorded the only doubles win for Trine as they won 8-1. Sophomores Jessica Huhnke (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) and Lauren Schlueter (Akron, Ohio/Revere) dropped a close match at first doubles 8-5 and sophomore Chrissy Uphaus (Centerville, Ind./Centerville) and junior Samantha Willmann (Anderson, Ind./Frankton) fell in a very tight match 9-7 at the second position.
The ladies came back to win five of the six singles matches to capture the team victory. Huhnke won at first singles 6-1, 6-1. Schlueter came back in her third singles match to win 1-6, 7-5, 6-4. Freshman Erin Kwaske handled her fourth singles match in a shutout 6-0, 6-0 and Willmann battled back to win at fifth singles 5-7, 7-6, (10-3). Goeglein also picked up a win at sixth singles 6-2, 6-1. Second singles was the lone singles loss for Trine as Uphaus fell in a close one, 7-5, 6-4.
The ladies will stay on the road as they travel to Spring Arbor for a 4:00 p.m. match on April 18th.
