COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. — The Trine University triathlon team has earned team academic recognition as College Triathlon Coaches Association (CTCA) Scholar All-American for its efforts in the classroom.
The Team Scholar All American award is in recognition of teams who excel in the classroom by achieving a cumulative semester GPA of 3.2 or higher in each of the three NCAA divisions. The Fall 2020 award was calculated by taking the average GPA for all student-athletes on a team's roster, regardless of competitions completed during that semester.
As a group, the Thunder overall GPA of 3.823 during the fall semester. Team members include: Mykaela Crowell, Stacy Dibley, Amira Faulkner, Cameron Hoellrich, Rachel Jones, Victoria Klingsmith, Rebecca Schaffner, Alexandria Smith, Halle Tisovic, Kyra Warren and Samantha Weaver.
"This incredible accomplishment is something we have been very consistent with throughout our time as a varsity team," said Head Coach Danny Powell. "I am so proud of these ladies."
The NCAA named triathlon an Emerging Sport for Women in 2014, a designation that gives the sport a 10-year window to demonstrate sustainability at the NCAA level. Thirty-six colleges and universities across the country currently sponsor the sport at the varsity level.
The CTCA was founded in 2017 with the objective of promoting collegiate triathlon while also providing guidance through educational, professional, technical and competitive support and opportunities to the organization's membership. The CTCA consists of active members, who are actively coaching triathlon on the NCAA sponsored varsity level, and associate members, who are interested in supporting the objectives and purposes of the CTCA.
