FREELAND, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) unveiled the 2021 Women's Volleyball All-MIAA teams, with Jacqueline Baughman [Lake Orion, Mich. / Lutheran Northwest] and Samantha Carlin [Celina, Ohio / Celina] mentioned as honorees.
Baughman makes her third appearance as an All-MIAA winner and for the second time in her career, received First Team accolades. The senior setter wrapped up regular season play with 969 assists, the second-most in the conference and 20th in NCAA DIII. She averaged 8.35 assists per match. In addition to outstanding assist numbers, Baughman also tallied 272 digs, 129 kills, 47 aces and 30 blocks (5 solo).
Baughman had back-to-back 52 assist games on a same day tri-match versus Kalamazoo College and Manchester University, her season-high in the category. She also set a new career mark with seven service aces in the 3-2 victory against the Hornets.
As a freshman defensive specialist and libero, Carlin finished the regular season with 543 digs. That value led the MIAA and was good for 17th in NCAA DIII. She was third on the team with 37 service aces in her first season in a Trine uniform.
Carlin notched her season-high in digs with 36 in the four-set regular season finale against Albion College on October 30. In the 3-0 sweep of Adrian College in the regular season, she had a season-best six aces.
The Thunder will make the trip to Hope College on Friday, November 5 in an MIAA Semifinal Match versus the number one seeded Flying Dutch at 7 pm.
