HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Rachel Campbell of the Trine University women's volleyball team was named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Volleyball Specialist of the Week for the first time in her career.
The junior defensive specialist from Greenfield, Indiana dominated in the back row in four wins last week for the Thunder. Trine was able to sweep Defiance College in non-conference action on Tuesday and went 3-0 over the weekend in upstate New York. The Thunder topped Oswego State University, the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and Grove City College 3-0, 3-0 and 3-1.
In total, Campbell dug out 60 opposing attacks, good for 15 digs per match and 4.62 digs per set. She set a new career-high with 25 digs in the four-set victory over Grove City on Saturday. In six of the last seven matches this season, Campbell has found herself in double figures in digs. She was also able to tally 17 assists, including eight against the Wolverines and had a pair of service aces.
Up next for the Thunder is the Manchester Invitational on Friday, September 22. Trine squares off with the host Manchester University Spartans at 4 p.m. followed by Franklin College at 6 p.m.
