ANGOLA, IND. – The Trine University men's tennis team avenged an earlier loss today defeating Bethel College by the score of 6-3. When the two teams met in September the Pilots defeated the Thunder 6-3.
Trine started the contest right, coming out of the doubles portion of the contest up 2-1. In the No. 1 doubles match, seniors Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) and Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind. / Brown County) came out on top by the score of 9-7. In the No. 2 match, junior Blake Trusty (Fremont, Ind. / Fremont) and sophomore Jacob Weiss (Richmond, Ind. / Richmond) were the victors by the score of 8-4.
Bethel pulled themselves back into the contest, taking the first two points from the singles portion winning the No. 1 and No.3 matches. The Thunder responded with four straight victories to finish the match with the 6-3 victory.
Quinn took the No. 2 match and Weiss took the No. 5 match both with scores of 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Isaac Everitt (Scottsburg, Ind. / Scottsburg) picked up the victory in the No. 4 match with scores of 7-5, 6-3. Senior Bryce Hernly (Indianapolis, Ind. / Ben Davis) gave the team its final point with scores of 6-2, 6-1.
With the victory the Thunder improve to 4-7. They will take the courts again on Wednesday, April 4. The match will mark the beginning of conference play for the team. Trine will host Albion in the match, which is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
